Submitting
your paper
You can choose to send either a short
paper or a full paper. The paper will be read by the instructor
and the other participants of your track. Likewise, you are
expected to skim trough the other papers in your track in advance
as well as act as an opponent for one paper.
Based on your paper, you will prepare
a presentation for the track session. At
least a short paper is required
to gain the ECTS study credits diploma from
the course as there is no exam in the course.
• Short/full paper: A short paper can be a theoretical
or an empirical one.
• In a theoretical paper you can formulate an argument or point out an
important research question, i.e. you can prepare the foundation for your own
research topic. Theoretical papers are not supposed to contain information about
empirical data or specific methods and research projects. (Yet you can include
that information in your seminar presentation.)
• In an empirical paper you report a study with a brief theoretical framework,
research problem and empirical findings with a concluding discussion.
• The style and format of the paper should be of an academic research paper
- please do not send research plan type of papers. If you do not have empirical
findings yet, choose the theoretical/conceptual paper. If you are still developing
your research plan, it is a good idea to submit a paper that analyses the research
problem and the concepts you are considering.
• The length of the short paper may vary from 2000 to 4000 words for
a short paper, or up to 6000 words for a full paper. Use Harvard-style citation.
• Send the paper in MS Word format by email to sem2010 (at)
tkk.fi.
• After SEM2010, you can revise your paper in order to further integrate
it with the Service Engineering and Management perspective and to take advantage
of the feedback you receive in the seminar. Best papers will be chosen for
publication in an edited book on service engineering and management published
by Aalto University School of Science and Technology.
The tracks are parallel. This means that you will participate
in all keynote lectures and only one track. You cannot switch
between the tracks. Each track participant is requested to
present their paper.
